I know that Hollywood could never do Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser "right", but they could still make a good movie out of it. 2 guys, from 2 different societies, stuck in this strange city, forced to work together. At first they hate each other, and over the course of the movie they become pals. Typical Hollywood stuff, but with some swords and sorcery, wine and wenches thrown in.
Point is, Hollywood is going to avoid old books when looking for movie inspiration. Instead we'll continue to get movies based on current books, like Harry Potter Twilight and Hunger Games. At least there's Game of Thrones.
So, there is an upside, is that what you're saying?
ReplyDeleteJust picture the violence Hollywood would do to Ill Met In Lankhmar. The chance of it remaining a tragic start to an epic duo is pretty low.
